A new direction....and lots of projects !

The Direction of Development is the main resource in terms of economic development for the City. It is mandated with carrying out the City’s strategic plan for sustainable and socioeconomic development as well as the City’s housing policy. The Direction is also responsible for coordinating the committee for economic development which includes municipal development project stakeholders—notably those involved in urban planning and engineering. Mr. Michel Joly, Director of Development and Assistant to the Director General and Mrs. Marie-Claude Côté, Development Advisor must also maintain contacts with the CLD, the SADC and all regional and national development organizations. In addition to this, Mr. Joly and Mrs Côté assists the city council in putting forth its various regional development action plans. They have been assigned the role of facilitator with regards to all economic development projects.

Six areas of focus resulting from the Strategic Plan for Socio-economic and Sustainable Development (2007)

• Improve Salaberry-de-Valleyfield's brand image. 
• Improve infrastructures and services necessary for residential construction.
• Strengthen and diversify the manufacturing industry.
• Strengthen and develop infrastructures for the transportation of goods. 
• Revitalize commercial activity and consolidate various public service elements.
• Develop the tourism industry.
